The holidays are here, the shops are doing great business. The parking is horrible. In downtown Hinsdale, there simply aren't enough parking spots to accommodate the residents, shoppers, and employees of the shops.
So now you must feed the parking meters. If you do, you must remember that feeding the meters is like feeding the bears in Colorado. It is "absolutely forbidden."
In Colorado, if a bear has three strikes against it for being near humans (even if people were feeding the bear) they kill the bear.
But don't worry. They don't do that in Hinsdale.
Instead, parking your car in violation of the Hinsdale parking ordinance, such as over expired meter, etc., three times in 60 days the penalty is upped from $5 dollars to more than $100 per violation.
I was recently consulted by a client who had more than $1,200 in parking fines because he had more than the minimum amount of expired parking tickets. For anyone having parking violations of more than five in a 60 day period, the fine is $250 per violation.
If you're going to park in downtown Hinsdale, you should really read at the parking laws. Don't a bear.
The laws can be found on the Village of Hinsdale website, or for the full list of ordinances, click here.
Note: You can go to court and state your case to a judge, or you can go to the Hinsdale police department and ask for help. They may have a procedure available where they can adjust fines.
