b2ap3_thumbnail_marriage.jpgAlthough the Millennial generation statistically appears hesitant to rush down the marital aisle, Peter Pearson, couples therapist and co-founder of the Couples Institute of Menlo Park, California has a word of advice for those choosing to make the leap. In agreement with social scientists who believe that married couples lead a happier existence, evident by a recent 2015 research paper published by the National Bureau of Economic Research, Pearson’s first word of advice, ensure that the chemistry is clearly evident. Although, Pearson eludes that chemistry is not everything, he does believe that if chemistry, both physical and emotional, is not a key component of the relationship, it may be a long road ahead for the couple, often resulting in divorce.

The concept of social chemistry or how one feels when they are with their better half plays a crucial role in the stability and growth of a relationship. Transactional analysis, a model that provides an account of how two people simultaneously interact has been explored as far back as the 1950s.

live with boyfriend before marriage, DuPage divorce lawyerCohabitation or Not? Some might say living with your boyfriend before being married is sort of like taking a car for a test drive. illinois divorce from first wife lawyer"I just found out that my spouse was never legally divorced from his first wife, is my marriage valid? What should I do? What steps should I take to protect myself now?"

You cannot be legally married to more than one person in Illinois. The second marriage is not valid. So you are not legally married to her husband if he's married to someone else and remains that way.

But all is not lost. If your husband divorces his first wife, even now, you can become automatically married to him without the necessity of going through a second ceremony so long as you have been cohabiting with him. That is, continuing to hold each other out as husband and wife. Once the first marriage ends by divorce or annulment or the death of the first wife, then your marriage becomes valid. The Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act [750 I LCS 5/212 (b)] provides just such a remedy for your situation.
