Truck Driver Dies in a Workplace Accident

A 57-year-old truck driver was killed in Bensenville on January 7 after being pinned between his truck and a post, according to the Chicago Tribune. Federal workplace safety officials are investigating the accident, which took place in Bensenville at Vitran Express.

Martin Sum was making a safety check of his truck before leaving for work when he was pinned between the open door of his truck and a post in a loading area. He was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. His death was ruled an accident. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, OSHA, is investigating the cause of the workplace accident. For instance, it may be possible that safety regulations were not followed. Officials of Vitran Express would not comment due to the pending investigation.
