Wedding Season Tips for Recent Divorcees

Posted on May 22, 2018 in Family Law

Illinois injury lawyerNow that it is spring and the summer is fast approaching, you may be invited to one or several weddings. If you have recently gotten divorced and this is your first wedding season single, you may be nervous about going to a wedding solo and unsure of how to RSVP to the weddings invitations you receive. Here are several wedding season tips that are sure to make wedding season an enjoyable rather than dreadful time for you.

1. RSVP Yes

It may be tempting for you to RSVP no. However, doing so can lead to social isolation and loneliness. You were invited to a wedding because a couple wants you to witness their special day so you should be there for them if you are able to. By attending a wedding, you can surround yourself with happy people and have a great time.

2. Look Your Best

If you have not attended many social events since your divorce, looking your best at a wedding can show others that you are back on the scene and ready to move on with your life. Take time choosing an outfit that accentuates your best features, get a manicure, visit the hair salon, and do anything else that will help you feel confident in your own skin.

3. Take a Date

Contrary to popular belief, your plus one does not have to be someone you are dating. If you are given the opportunity to bring a plus one, take advantage of it. Consider taking your friend, sibling, or anyone else that you know you will make a wedding more enjoyable.

4. Do Not Discuss Your Divorce

While you are at a wedding, make an effort to not mention your divorce. Weddings are a time to celebrate love, not dwell on your previous marriage. If you forget about your divorce while you are at a wedding, you are far more likely to have a good time.

5. Avoid Using Your Phone

You may want to check your email or social media or text while at a wedding. Doing so can prevent you from meeting new people and taking in the wedding experience. If possible, store your phone in your purse or car and do not use it until the wedding is over.
