Expecting your first child is one of the most exciting and nerve wrecking experiences. The body changes as the child grows and you always wonder “if this is normal”. Asking doctors many questions and seeking out opinions seems to be the norm. When you are really not feeling well the obvious draw is to go see a doctor promptly, sometimes to the emergency room. All to make sure that little one is just fine.
Nachman and Raizy Glaber, both 21 of Brooklyn, were those kinds of parents. With much anticipation of their new baby, they wanted to make sure the little one was okay. Raizy, the mother, was not feeling well Saturday, so Sunday March 3, they decided to get a livery cab and head to the hospital. On their way there, however, a BMW slammed in the cab making the engine of the cab pushed up to the backseat. Back there was Raizy who was seven months pregnant who was eventually thrown out of the vehicle and found under a parked tractor-trailer. Her husband, Nachman, was pinned in the car and had to be removed from the vehicle by cutting the roof off.
Both were taken to the hospital and pronounced dead from blunt force trauma. The baby, who was a boy, was born out of cesarean section and was immediately in serious condition, weighing only 4 pounds and having been in a serious car accident. However, later on Monday, the boy passed away a day after his parents of extreme prematurity.
As this horrific event was occurring, the driver and passenger of the BMW fled the scene proving they had minor injuries comparatively to the cab victims. Police were seeking Julio Acevedo, 44, for connection to the crash. On Wednesday, March 6, he was found and arrested in a Pennsylvania convenience store. He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
