For the first time, if you pay child support, you can now deduct your student loan payments from your income in calculating your child support obligation.

Since January 1, 2016, Illinois divorce law has changed. Illinois divorce judges are now directed to deduct your student loan payments from your income in calculating guideline child support. Prior to the new law, Illinois divorce laws stopped Illinois divorce judges from deducting your student loan payments in applying child support guidelines. 750 ILCS 5/505(a)(3)(h) [Amended January 1, 2015]
